FLEXIM is a technology leader in clamp-on ultrasonic flow measurement for liquids and gases, for chemical; oil & gas, including offshore; and other industries. It specializes in high temperature.

History and Organization

FLEXIM was founded February 17, 1990 in an old storefront during turbulent times in Germany following the fall of the Berlin wall. Four graduates of Berlin's Humboldt University and the University of Rostock decided to take advantage of the new risks and opportunities by developing and manufacturing ultrasonic flow instrumentation. Two of the company founders had studied ultrasonic flow measurement under Prof. Dr. Otto Fiedler, with whom they developed the first ultrasonic flowmeter prototypes.

Today, FLEXIM employs over 100 people at its new headquarters in Berlin. The company also has subsidiaries in the United States, Singapore, China, France, the Netherlands, and Austria.
After 18 months of hard work the instrument was ready for prime time and the first model moved into production. During the 1991 Hannover fair the first unit was sold to a customer for use in Nepal. Model FLUXUS® ADM 6402 soon became a "benchmark" product.

In 2002, FLEXIM launched its PIOX® refractometer series. Refractometers originated with Carl Zeiss in Jena, Germany in 1872. PIOX® refractometers are the result of a cooperative agreement between FLEXIM and the Godat company, which had grown out of the Carl Zeiss company. Godat contributed its refractometer expertise; FLEXIM contributed the electronic signal processing portion to the new venture.
